What is (pre-)settled status?
Due to the United Kingdom leaving the European Union (Brexit), the rules for EU citizens entering the UK have changed. However, people who moved to the UK before the end of the transition period (31/12/2020) have the right to apply for and receive (pre-)settled status. This status allows them to retain their existing rights and privileges, enabling them to live, work, study, and access benefits and public funds in the UK without any changes.

◦ If you have lived in the UK for less than 5 years, you will receive pre-settled status, which is valid for 5 years. Once you have completed 5 continuous years of residence in the UK, you can apply for settled status.
◦ If you have lived in the UStudying in the United Kingdom:K for more than 5 years, you will receive settled status, which has no expiration date.
How long does it take to get pre-settled status?
Each application is reviewed individually. The status can be granted within a few days, but in some cases, it may take several months to receive a response.
What happens to my pre-settled status if I leave or plan to leave the UK?
◦ If you already have pre-settled status, remember it is valid for 5 years. However, if you spend 2 consecutive years outside the UK, you will lose your pre-settled status. Note that a single year spent outside the UK for reasons such as health issues is permissible and does not affect your status.
◦ If you are waiting for pre-settled status approval, you can still travel to the UK, even if your status has not yet been confirmed.
Do I need a visa to start studying in the United Kingdom?
◦ If you moved to the UK before 31/12/2020 and have applied for (or received) (pre-)settled status, you do not need a visa.

◦ If you do not have (pre-)settled status, unfortunately, you will need a visa to start studying in the United Kingdom.
